This series is designed primarily for those who are taking their first steps in playing the guitar, either in small groups or as individuals. It is assumed that there will be a teacher to give appropriate individual guidance, including how to hold and tune the guitar.Throughout the four books of the series, many pieces can be combined to produce duets or ensemble items. This will help to develop the enjoyable and important skill of playing with other guitarists. Phrase marks are omitted for the sake of clarity, but can be easily added according to personal preference.
An important feature of this book is the development of a secure free stroke technique through the playing of arpeggios and chords. Second and seventh positions, important in both solo and ensemble work, are also explored. Left hand technique is developed by the introduction of slurs, and there is a page of common chords at the end of the book.
